The Quartering Acts

The Quartering Acts were other of the Acts imposed by the Parliament. This didn't levy taxes from colonists but forced them to give rooms to the custom officials that enforced The Sugar Act. Besides having to give the soldiers quarters, they were also forced to feed them. Later, in 1774, this act was modified and it now allowed the British soldiers to take over any building they wanted and the colonists had to leave the building.

This infuriated the colonists in several ways. Not only did they had to provide housing but the officers were also taking away jobs. People hired them most because they didn't ask for a big salary and were willing to work very hard.

The Sugar Act

The Sugar Act was created in 1733 and it originally levied 6 pence per gallon of molasses imported. This taxes were mostly avoided because the merchants smuggled the goods. On April 5, 1764 the tax was about to expire and the Parliament modified it. This modification is also known as The Revenue Act of 1764. It reduced the tax to only 3 pence per gallon but Lord Grenville sent instucted British officers to make sure this tax was paid.

Other goods such as sugar, certain wines, coffee, pimiento, cambric and printed calico were also taxed by this act. Tjis led to the decline in the rum industries of the colonies and this reduced the flow of money harming the economy.

What caused The American Revolution?

The American Revolution didn't happen overnight. It took several years for it to fully develop. It was caused by multiple things but what had the biggest impact were the taxes levied by the British Parliament.

British was struggling with poverty. Economy declined after The French and Indian War. During this war, protection was sent to the colonies. Because of this, the British Parliament tought that the colonists should help by paying taxes. This upsetted the colonists so they protested intelectually, with economic boycotts and also with violent intimidation. All this forced the Parliament to withdraw the imposed taxes.
